Talking Pictures

Talking Pictures is a graphic novel with a unique feel that is immersed in the history of Jewish culture in the South. It tells the story of a young boy who wants nothing more than to play the blues on the piano. Talking Pictures is divided into four stories, two of them are narrated by the boy, one by his sister, and one by his dog.

This is a story about Berl Olswanger, a young pianist from Memphis, Tennessee. He got his big break at the age of twelve making his professional debut at Dreamland Gardens, a Memphis dance hall. Berl grew up to become a composer and arranger. He toured the country with big band orchestras and accompanied Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Jack Benny, among others. While he could have been a big star, he chose to return to Memphis to be with his loved ones.
